Biedermeier style
Biedermeier is a simplistic artistic style that is devoid of aristocracy and excesses of decoration. The style is characterized by integrity, proportionality, geometric simplicity and natural color. It features a white stove, small cupboards with dishes, wall or floor clocks, embroideries, music boxes, porcelain figures and other sentimental little things.
The walls are decorated with wallpaper in warm colors with a small print or covered with wooden panels; the floor is covered with parquet or laminate. The furniture is usually light wood, with curved backs and armrests, bent legs, decorated with floral ornaments.
Contemporary style
Contemporary classic style brings the nobility of classic style together with modern materials and technologies. This combination results in an elegant and elaborate design, but more affordable than the original classic style.
In terms of materials, both classic ones such as wood, glass, metal, ceramic, and modern ones such as polyurethane, acrylic, synthetic leather and plastic are used. One of the current trends is to use modern materials that imitate natural, classic ones. And here I am referring to ceramic tiles that imitate the texture of wood or those that imitate marble or granite.
In a classic contemporary decor, we will find objects with matte or glossy finishes in royal colors such as gold and silver, oversized decorations, but reduced in number, and high-quality, velvety upholstery in strong colors. A classic contemporary decor reveals understated yet affordable luxury.
Scandinavian style
A Scandinavian decor is easily recognizable by a series of specific elements: a light or neutral background, the black-white contrast, wooden furniture pieces with a minimalist design, functional decor elements, reduced in number, textile accessories made of thick materials, braids, furs, etc. Scandinavian style relies on a clean, functional and bright design.
A new trend in interior design is the Scandinavian Chic style, which adds personality to interiors by introducing artistic or personal elements such as handmade decorations, paintings, objects with original design, industrial-inspired lighting fixtures.
Eclectic style
Beloved by unconventional people, the eclectic style is a style that allows the juxtaposition of decor elements made in completely different styles and seemingly unrelated objects.
Eclecticism calls for diversity, originality, unconventional mixes of colors, materials and textures, old and new, sober and warm, etc. In an eclectic setting, we can find classic, Victorian, provence pieces of furniture alongside modern or contemporary objects. The basic rule is to find a connecting element between all the pieces in the decor and avoid excesses.
Modern style
It’s a balanced, harmonious, accessible style that many of us find ourselves in. The modern style is not overwhelming, but neither is it reduced to a limited number of elements as is the case with the minimalist style.
On the contrary, the modern style brings to attention simple decor elements with straight and elegant lines, with smooth or polished surfaces, relatively short furniture with supple lines and visible legs, accessories made of natural, fine and comfortable textiles.
In terms of materials, the modern style is permissive, that is, it includes both wood and MDF, chipboard, glass, metal, etc. In a modern design we will often encounter glossy surfaces or finishes. Vibrant colors and precious finishes are used much less often and only as an accent.
Shabby chic style
A shabby chic style apartment is characterized by white and pastel colors, authentic pieces of furniture from different eras (baroque, rococo, Victorian…), romantic motifs, the presence of handmade items and the permanent presence of flowers. The floors are often light, made of parquet, laminate or tiles. The ceiling is a clean white with light beams.
The walls are whitewashed or painted in warm tones, with paintings or wallpapers depicting delicate and faded bouquets, cherubs, thin stripes. Most often, to find the right furniture you will have to go to a flea market. Old dressers, wardrobes, coffee tables, chairs and beds with cut-out heads are first restored, covered with light paint, intentionally accentuating or mimicking wear, patina and cracks.
Hygge style
You must have heard about the Scandinavian style, so popular lately. Well, Hygge is a Norwegian and Danish term that cannot be translated into a single word, but it suggests the feeling of cozy and friendly.
In this sense, a hygge interior necessarily has fine beds, candle with your favorite scents, teapots, decorations and lighting fixtures. It is a warm and calm style, constituting a combination of new and old. The style involves neutral colors with warm accents, natural materials and a welcoming, warm and original decor.
Contemporary art-deco style
Fashionable in the last century, the Art Deco style can be described by luxury, opulence and elements borrowed from cubism, neoclassicism and modernism.
Art Deco interior design includes parallel, symmetrical lines, large curves, furniture with rounded shapes, horizontal lines, delicate mixes of colors and textures, ornaments or decorations with geometric shapes, stylized and repetitively combined, plant or animal prints, symbols, shapes abstract etc.
But all these features are combined with modern materials and technologies, which brings the Art Deco style into contemporaneity.
Kitsch style
Kitsch is one of the most special and unusual interior design styles. Not only does he refuse to follow rules, he refuses to follow even basic ideas of beauty. The essence of kitsch design is just to depart from all standards. Kitsch has no rules.
Specific features: unusual combinations (for example, a velvet curtain and a plastic chair), artificial flowers, sweets, demonstrative disharmony, the presence of “cult” things for the average person – a carpet with deer, postcards with young ladies winking, etc.
